RECRUITMENT FAQs

What if I have a scheduling conflict with one of the rounds?

The WPA will send out a conflict form before recruitment starts to accommodate legitimate excuses (e.g. class, varsity sports, religious services, etc.)

What should I wear?

There is no dress code. PNMs should wear what makes them feel most comfortable and express their individuality while keeping in mind that recruitment is in January, and it will likely be cold outside. Sisterhood and preference rounds are typically more formal. For ideas or somewhere to start, a Pinterest board can be found HERE for inspiration.

Can I go through the recruitment process if I am not a freshman?

Yes! Primary recruitment is for students of all grade levels.

Do I need to submit a letter of recommendation?

Each chapter has its own policy about whether it accepts letters of recommendation. However, no PNM is required to submit one.

What kind of time commitment is Sorority Life?

Members of our sorority chapters are involved in many other extracurriculars, clubs, professional fraternities, varsity and club sports, research, campus jobs, etc. Although the new member period (typically 1-2 months long) is more time intensive, members can be more or less active in their chapter given their preferences.

Am I guaranteed to get a bid?

Assuming you continue showing up to all rounds of recruitment, there is a high likelihood of receiving a bid from a chapter, although not a 100% chance. If a PNM does not receive a bid through the formal recruitment process, she is eligible to join a sorority through COB after bid day.

What is COB?

Continuous Open Bidding is the informal recruitment process (not all sororities participate) where PNMs who either missed out on formal recruitment or withdrew from the process before preference round can receive a bid to a sorority.

What if I do not like my sorority?

If a new member drops her sorority before she is initiated, she may wait until the next primary recruitment cycle to go through the process again. Initiated members are forever ineligible to join another NPC sorority.

Will I be hazed if I join a sorority?

Absolutely not. Any and all forms of hazing are strictly forbidden at WashU.
